Social media is an inescapable part of life today. To Boomers, Generation X and Millennials, that means the privilege of staying in constant touch with far-away friends and online dating.
But to Generation Z, social media is not a “fun” virtual space that complements physical reality, it is physical reality. In other words, the physical and social media realms are one and the same.
Why is that a problem? Well, it means that their day has no beginning nor end. Teenagers are in the middle of something happening, and they are always missing out on it.
Sound stressful? It is and “digital depression” has become the leading cause of anxiety, depression and suicidality in teens.
