On Sarah and Hagar, composer Sheli Nan calls for reconciliation between Arabic and Jewish peoples, drawing from the biblical story of Sarah and Hagar in a dramatic work for string quartet and two voices. The story of the two holy mothers coming together, shedding perennial feelings of pain, competition, and anger, calls for a new beginning of harmonious peace and empathy. Nan’s music captures the emotions of countless generations.
