CANTON, OHIO: when someone says Kent State University, the first thing that comes to mind is the Ohio National Guard opening fire on students demonstrating against the Vietnam War.
On that spring evening, in 1970, shockwaves rippled through American homes and, by the next morning, politicians in Washington, D.C., recognized that not only had statistical hubris lost them the War but also the American public.
Today, however, Kent State University is becoming well known for returning the music discipline to its roots as a science, not an art.
The University offers a first-in-class Bachelor of Science in music technology program in which students learn every aspect of music design, creation and production.
As part of the Vienna Live mini-series on innovation in music education, we are privileged to be joined by Erin Vaughn, Professor of Music at Kent State University.
Let’s welcome Erin to our show and get to know the music of the future!
