Composing and improvising music has become a very personal, reflective experience for me. Thus, however, my love for all kinds of jazz music and a magnetic attraction to the lower register brought me into contact with my main instrument, the BASS,” writes Gina Schwarz. Gina would probably admit that she’s not typical of the small village she came from in Lower Austria. Different interests, different dreams, different understanding of what should be valued – even precious – and what is worth fighting for. She also is probably the only one from her village to be awarded the Berklee Best Award, Winner of the MUSIC MAKER Compositions Contest, the Hans Koller Preis and effectively conquered the New York jazz scene when her music was distinguished among the “Best Performances of the Year” by New York Best Of.
